Breakfast, bitte – but who makes it?

#HerrMeier – the fountain philosopher

Servus! Or, as we say where ich come from in England: Hello!

Ich am #HerrMeier, the fountain philosopher. Ich lie here at Landhaus Gritschacher in my blue Badewanne, listening und thinking. About the big questions of life.

Und sometimes about Frühstück.

Ulla und Walter say they wouldn’t put anything on your table that they wouldn’t serve to their friends. Quite right, ich say.

But who makes sure all those good things find their way onto your table in the morning?

🐝 Visitors at my bar

When it comes to Honig, ich know exactly where it comes from. The organic beekeeping family Hopfgartner are our neighbours here in St. Peter in Holz. All the honey you get here comes from them.

It’s not just the bees who sometimes stop by for a drink. The Hopfgartner family do too. The bees drink water. The family? Not always, you understand.

Ich will tell you more about that in my story about their beekeeping. Until then: Prost!

Fresh from the oven

When the Duft of fresh bread fills the house in the morning, Walter is usually at work. Most of the bread und pastries come from Haubis, und Walter is baking.

Sometimes there’s also bread from the Sommeregger family’s wood-fired oven. We also get flour und various seeds from them.

Perhaps Ulla will take me along in spring so we can see when they’re baking bread. Although … getting me out of my Wanne might be a little difficult. Perhaps she can just tell me about it.

Und here ich lie, enjoying the Duft. Ohne breakfast plate.

Life is sometimes unfair.

Say Käse!

We’ve had cheese from the Kaslab’n for a long time: they’ve been supplying us with their cheese since they opened ten years ago.

Und then there’s Michael Kerschbaumer. He actually managed to convince Walter about tofu. Walter! Tofu! 🤔 But that’s another Geschichte.

From eggs to pasta

Our eggs come from Wakonig. Und they don’t just have eggs – they also have pasta, which we use in our kitchen.

You see, our producers are part of more than just breakfast. What they bring into the house also finds its way into the kitchen later in the day. Und ich am sure ich will have more to tell you about the Wakonig family.

From the Landhaus kitchen

Walter makes the Schinken himself. If it runs out, we get more from Karnerta in Spittal. Our sausages come from farmers in the surrounding area.

Pickled vegetables, syrups und jams are also made in the Landhaus kitchen, using regional ingredients. Dairy products, vegetables, juices und other things come from farmers und businesses in Kärnten.

Ich could read out a name for every product. But ich am a fountain philosopher, not a telephone book.

If you’d like to know more, you can take a look at where our breakfast products come from. Und little by little, ich will tell you more stories about the people behind our products.

Und now: Frühstück

Whether you sit down at a table in the Defregger-Stüberl or take your breakfast with you as an “Early Bird”, both are prepared for you with Liebe.

You can find out more on our breakfast page.

💧 Fountain philosophy to take away

Sometimes Ulla sits with me und a Glaserl, und we spend a little time philosophising. About life, people und sometimes the bees.

Und sometimes one of our thoughts finds its Weg onto your breakfast bags. A little piece of fountain philosophy to take along on your journey.

Ich think it’s often the kleinen Dinge that make a day special. A good breakfast. A conversation. Or a place by my side.

Not bad for a philosopher in a Badewanne.

With a bronze smile,
Your #HerrMeier – the fountain philosopher
